Renew Your ICAP Credential

Welcome to the ICAP Credential Renewal Process
Credential renewal is the process that all ICAP professionals must complete to maintain their active status on the ICAP registry.

Renewal is required every three years to ensure that your practice continues to meet the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.

This process also encourages you to reflect on your practice, your use of the ICAP Code of Ethics, and your ongoing contributions to the field. Renewing your ICAP credential is an essential step in reaffirming your professional commitment to excellence in Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Support. The renewal process highlights your dedication to maintaining high ethical standards, enhancing your professional competence, and staying current with evolving evidence-based practices in the field of substance use.

Through renewal, you demonstrate your ongoing commitment to advancing your knowledge and skills, ensuring that your work continues to reflect international best practices. Maintaining your ICAP credential allows you to uphold your professional credibility and accountability, reinforcing your role as a trusted and qualified practitioner.

Whether you are engaged in clinical care, prevention programs, research, education, or policy development, your renewed ICAP certification sends a clear message—to employers, colleagues, and the communities you serve—that you are dedicated to continuous learning, ethical practice, and improving outcomes for individuals and families affected by substance use challenges.

We offer a range of resources and tools to support you through your renewal journey—helping you stay informed, engaged, and empowered in your role as an ICAP professional.

Not sure where things stand? Take a quick look at the Live Register to confirm your current credential status. It only takes a moment to make sure everything’s accurate and up to date.  For full details, visit the Portal Register and explore the complete “Live” Register. An ICAP credential is valid for 3 years from the award date.

Please note: You must renew your ICAP credential before it expires. Make sure to prepare in advance and be ready to submit a complete application with supporting documents when your renewal window opens. You may submit your CCA renewal application up to 6 months before your credential expires.

Not Currently Practicing?

If you’re not working directly with clients but still want to stay on the ICAP Live Register, you can renew by:

  • Completing CEUs related to training or supervision

  • Showing you still use evidence-based practices

  • Providing proof of mentoring or supervising others

📩 If this applies to you, email [email protected] and we’ll help you through the process.

To renew your ICAP credential every three years, you need to show that you're staying active and up to date in your field. Here’s what’s required:
