UCLA Extension is proud to offer a professional certificate in the rewarding field of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling. This certificate is designed for aspiring addiction counselors. Addiction counselors assist individuals in recovery, help with identifying behaviors and problems relating to their substance use disorder, and support them in finding their motivation to change using evidence-based practices. The curriculum combines theory and research with practical experience to prepare students for the situations they will encounter as counselors. The entire curriculum is reviewed and approved by UCLA academic departments. Courses are designed to be taken sequentially starting in the Fall Quarter. The UCLA Extension Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling Certificate is approved by California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals Education Institute (CCAPP-EI). This certificate meets the educational requirements for those seeking professional certification from CCAPP and its certification board, CCAPP Credentialing.
