From August 26 to 28, 2024, the Vietnam International Technology Transfer Center (V-ITTC) at Hanoi Medical University, in collaboration with the Sub-Department of Social Evils Prevention of Hanoi, conducted a training program on “Motivational Interviewing” and “Case Management” for 24 volunteer social workers from wards and communes across the city. This training is part of the preparatory phase for launching a pilot model focused on providing counseling, support, care, and addiction recovery services to people who use drugs (PWUD) in three selected locations in Hanoi. Over the course of three days, the participants practiced essential motivational interviewing techniques and discussed the advantages and challenges of applying these methods within their communities. Led by V-ITTC experts, the training covered core counseling skills, techniques for identifying behavior change stages, and strategies for handling complex situations with PWUD. The participants also had opportunities to engage in group discussions and real-life case sharing. The program’s success lies in its hands-on approach, offering the trainees practical experience that will be critical as they implement the pilot model in their respective communities.
