This satellite event will bring together experts from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), as well as researchers, trainees, and institutional staff from across the world (with emphasis on low- and middle-income countries), to discuss current gaps and potential new strategies for research capacity building in the field of global mental health, one of the cross-cutting strategic research themes at the NIMH. Research capacity building is understood as the means to effectively develop and support a multidisciplinary global mental health research workforce by supporting the system at all career stages and relevant domains, including administrative institutional support. The event will provide the opportunity for participants to learn about NIMH priorities in global mental health and existing funding opportunities. Additionally, this event will provide an opportunity to explore and discuss the opportunities and challenges of establishing and maintaining a mental health research career in diverse contexts. This event is open to the public and registration is free.
