What do individuals need to recover from addiction? In this training, we will first describe recovery capital as a predictor of long-term addiction recovery. Second, we will discuss how we characterize substance use disorder (SUD) as a chronic condition and lean into the complexity of the heterogeneity of SUD and recovery as a process of change. Finally, in part three of the training, we will focus on harm reduction as a pathway of recovery. Presenter Alex Elswick, PhD, currently serves the University of Kentucky as an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist for Substance Use Prevention and Recovery. His experience with addiction is multifaceted: Elswick is a trained Therapist, Recovery Coach, and researcher. He is a Co-Founder of the largest recovery community organization in Kentucky, Voices of Hope, as well as Co-Founder of the Collegiate Recovery Community at the University of Kentucky. *There is no fee to attend. Continuing education hours are free for NAADAC members and $15 for non-members.
