Training of Trainers on Universal Prevention Curriculum for Substance use (UPC Core) program

From October 14 to 18, 2024, V-ITTC collaborated with the Colombo Plan to organize a 5-day in-person training on Universal Prevention Curriculum Core (UPC 10). The program was attended by 22 educators and staff from multiple academic institutions, including medical schools, universities, a high school, and social organizations in Vietnam. Guided by two trainers from the Colombo Plan, participants received comprehensive training on the physiology and pharmacology of psychoactive substances, behavior theory, evidence-based prevention strategies, intervention policies, and international standards in substance use prevention. The program featured group-based practical exercises to encourage knowledge sharing and real-world application. Pre- and post-training assessments were conducted to measure learning outcomes. Participants are expected to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to strengthen prevention efforts within their institutions.

Training on Strong Families program

From October 30 to 31, 2024, V-ITTC members, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), conducted the “Training on Strong Families.” The program was attended by 30 faculty members and staff from medical schools, universities, CDC centers, and government departments in Vietnam. The training introduced the evidence-based “Strong Families” program, which supports parents and children aged 8–16 in building essential family skills to prevent drug use. Delivered by experts from UNODC Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia, the sessions provided participants with comprehensive guidance, including structured modules, role-playing, and interactive exercises. Participants gained practical skills to implement the program in community settings, with a focus on fostering positive communication, stress management strategies, and safe spaces for family dialogue. Assessments were conducted before and after the training to measure learning outcomes. Trained facilitators are expected to apply their knowledge in supporting families to build trust-based relationships and stronger connections within their communities.
