Overcoming barriers to traditional care delivery and pharmacy challenges: a qualitative study of buprenorphine, telehealth, and a digital therapeutic for opioid use disorder

This study examines patient experiences with a digital therapeutic telehealth program for opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment using buprenorphine. Participants reported that telehealth helped overcome many barriers associated with traditional in-person care, such as logistical challenges, financial strain, and limited provider access. While telehealth showed promise in improving treatment engagement and retention, issues with medication access remained a concern. These findings contribute to the broader conversation on expanding telehealth for OUD treatment, offering insights that may be relevant for international settings where similar barriers to care exist, particularly in regions with limited healthcare infrastructure.
